The birds seem to love it--especially the Red-Bellied Woodpeckers and the Hairy/Downy Woodpeckers. It didn't completely deter the squirrels but that didn't surprise me. THEY are hard to defeat!
Birds love it!!!!
Our neighborhood birds have been enjoying their suet meals.
Since the development at the old Mississippi Dunes golf site, now to be called Mississippi Landing, over 2,000 trees (one source stated 2,500 trees) were clear cut and ground up.
The unintended consequence of this action was that many of the birds who once called that 188-acre plot home became homeless. Many of them moved the 0.2 miles south to our wooded neighborhood.
Occasionally we would see one Pileated Woodpecker - but now we have seen and heard the pair. There is a smaller red-headed woodpecker and one that is very small and gray colored. Where we often saw turtles - of various sizes and species on walkabouts on their way to the river or ponds, last year we did not see one. The two beave ledges and most likely the beavers are gone, and the turkey population, too is about 20% of what we observed in previous years (decades of observation).
So when the weather is so extreme, we are grateful that you offer this rescue food - these Suets - for these wonderful neighborhood companions. Thank you!
The woodpeckers have been coming to it and enjoying the product.
Birds are loving it in the Winter time !!
